The Slovenian section of the International Police
Association is celebrating its 10th anniversary of activity. It
is therefore appropriate, at such jubilee, to return back into the
past and to remember the ways that we have walked.
Though the Slovenian section was founded on 20th of April 1991
at the Constitutional Assembly in Gozd Martuljek, another date,
July 14'h, 1990, was equally important. On that occasion the first
steps towards the foundation were made with the meeting of Milan
Zorec, Zvone Roµman, Branko Celar, Pavle Čelik, Ivo Usar, Mitja
Klavora and Joµe Veldin in Maribor. The representatives of the IPA
Section Austria, Dr. Hubert Holler and Adi Steger also participated
at the meeting of this initiative committee. Thus first steps towards
foundation were made and the path just continued.
Already in November of the same year a group of 21 associate members
of IPA from all over Slovenia met in Ljubljana. They nominated the
Organising Committee for the foundation of the IPA Section. After
the already mentioned Constitutional Assembly at Gozd Martuljek
the initial phase was fully completed on November 6th, 1992, in
Rio de Janeiro, when Slovenia became a full member of the Association.
Since then IPA Section Slovenia continued to develop its activities
and increased the number of its members, which grew from the initial
44 up to nearly 6000 today. Our Association gets an ever increasing
importance with the opening of world and European borders, with
increasing desire of our members to establish links with friends
abroad and also because of the increasing desire of our foreign
friends to learn more about Slovenia. Over these ten years a lot
of new friendships were developed all over the world since the IPA
membership includes already over 300.000 members in 61 States all
over the world.
We wish a lot of friendly links and meetings in next years to all
members, be it at home in Slovenia as throughout all the countries
of the world.
